Mere Calvinism
Awhile back, we decided to always have a book available on the doctrines of grace (aka 'Calvinism'). To determine what we should carry, I spend the next couple weeks reading all the books I could find on the topic. Sproul, Storms, Boettner, MacArthur, Palmer, Steele, Murray and more were devoured before eventually settling on two: Rebels Rescued by Brian Cosby and Five Points by John Piper. The former is written to high school students and serves as a wonderful introduction to Calvinism, whereas the latter is a concise answer to the most common theological and practical objections lodged against Calvinists. Because of that earlier search, I now feel bound to investigate new potentials...

Mere Calvinism by Jim Orrick was released January 31, 2019 and just landed on my desk. I've been working through it and am encouraged so far. Orrick has decades of pastoral wisdom, helping untaught church-goers understand what the Bible teaches about God's power over all of life and the consequences of man's sin.
Using lots of Scripture and down-to-earth illustrations, Orrick writes in simple language that is very accessible for high school students and above. If you're seeking to understand what the Bible says about God's sovereignty in salvation, this is an excellent starting point.
